The collection is inspired by a personal meditative practice developed within a domestic setting, where the artist adopted a horizontal posture to facilitate the release of bodily tension. This approach—at times accompanied by soothing auditory stimulation—was born from a quest for self-connection. Prolonged stillness and a focused awareness of respiratory rhythms gradually induced an altered state of consciousness, providing access to a sensory register typically beyond reach.

These sessions generated a repertoire of visual perceptions oscillating between recognizable forms and dynamic abstractions, characterized by an intense and fluctuating chromatic palette. Interpreted as visual correlates of the activation of the body’s energy centers, these manifestations accompanied a significant transformation in the artist’s consciousness. This experience led to a somatic mapping of these phenomena and a profound understanding of the underlying perceptive mechanisms.

The featured works translate these subjective experiences by offering a visual materialization of phosphenes—luminous impressions that occur in the absence of direct retinal stimulation. They illustrate how contemplative practices can reconfigure our relationship with the sensible world and reveal dimensions of conscious experience that are usually inaccessible.

La série « Phosphènes » constitue une exploration visuelle des phénomènes optiques intérieurs qui émergent lors d’états méditatifs profonds. Ces créations documentent les manifestations lumineuses endogènes qui apparaissent dans le champ perceptif lorsque l’attention se tourne vers l’intériorité.

L’œuvre s’inspire d’une pratique méditative personnelle développée dans un contexte domestique, où l’artiste a privilégié une posture horizontale favorable à l’abandon des tensions corporelles. Cette démarche — parfois accompagnée de stimulations sonores apaisantes — répondait à une quête d’auto-connexion. L’immobilité prolongée et l’attention portée aux rythmes respiratoires ont progressivement induit un état de conscience modifié, ouvrant l’accès à un registre perceptif habituellement inaccessible.

Ces séances ont généré un répertoire de perceptions visuelles oscillant entre formes reconnaissables et abstractions dynamiques, caractérisées par une chromatique intense et fluctuante. Ces manifestations, interprétées comme des corrélats visuels de l’activation des centres énergétiques du corps, ont accompagné une transformation significative de la conscience de l’artiste. Cette expérience a conduit à une cartographie somatique de ces phénomènes et à une compréhension approfondie des mécanismes perceptifs impliqués.

Les œuvres présentées traduisent ces expériences subjectives en proposant une matérialisation visuelle des phosphènes : ces impressions lumineuses qui se manifestent en l’absence de stimulation rétinienne directe. Elles illustrent comment les pratiques contemplatives peuvent reconfigurer notre rapport au sensible et révéler des dimensions de l’expérience consciente habituellement inaccessibles.

“Rue Ancienne Keight’s Door” is a reference to Keight’s work, “Trapdoor”. That door can open onto a universe waiting to be discovered: secrets buried deep within the psyche; emptiness; shadow; light; movement. The arched door and vaults recall the old buildings of the city of Carouge, as well as the minimalist lines of the trams that, for the briefest of life’s moments, carry us on a journey.
